Murals beautify Ninh Binh’s rural roads

Visitors to the northern Ninh Binh province could become easily “lost” among the poetic beauty created by mural-lined roads. Hundreds of colourful artworks depicting history and famous landscapes, and others promoting the building of new style rural areas, have replaced old walls, giving Ninh Binh’s countryside a facelift.

Old, mossy green walls in Khanh Thanh commune, Yen Khanh district, in Ninh Binh province have been given a fresh look thanks to beautiful murals along its roads. These mural-lined roads have contributed to raising public awareness about environmental protection, and building new style rural areas.

Initiated by Yen Khanh commune’s women’s union, the mural-lined roads aim to attract more domestic and foreign tourists, and introduce the beauty of Ninh Binh’s land and people.

The project began in 2019 with 32 mural-lined roads, at a total length of 36 km. Images selected for the murals include those relating to the history, culture, and people of Hoa Lu Ancient Citadel, and will give the local area a lively new look.

As of September, women’s unions at all levels had mobilised local people to paint over 2,000 murals on walls of cultural houses in villages and hamlets, and on nearly 500 electricity poles, costing a total of over 244,000 USD./.
