Hanoi (VNA) – Deputy Prime Minister Trinh DinhDung asked the Transport Ministry to soon submit special mechanisms for the north-southhighway project during a meeting to launch the sector’s activities for 2018. 

Dung lauded the ministry for completing the task on buildinglegal documents and goals regarding transport, traffic safety, transportinfrastructure and administrative reform in 2017.

He required the ministry to continue working to reduce trafficaccidents which still claim over 8,000 lives per year.

Another issue of concern is the development gap amongdifferent transportation modes, with the slow development of railways andhighways putting pressure on national routes and reducing economiccompetitiveness, the Deputy PM said.

He also underlined the shortcomings of BOT projects whichcaused public disorder recently and assigned the ministry to review legalregulations in the field.

At the same time, the ministry should review service costsin airports and tighten the control of overload vehicles.
