ASEAN countries receive up to 2 million migrant workers annually. In the process of migration, Vietnamese workers face barriers such as social security or foreign workers quota.

A report released at a national meeting in Hanoi on Sept.10 in preparation for the ASEAN Forum on Migrant Labour showed that there are over 100,000 Vietnamese laborers working aboard.

The ASEAN economic community has carried out a number of steps to provide favorable conditions for regional workers to migrate from one country to another. However, the rules are only applicable to skilled workforce such as doctors, dentists, nurses and tour guides. The number of skilled workers only account for 5% of total Vietnamese laborers aboard.-VNA
