Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – About 67,000 taxidrivers in Malaysia will get fuel cards worth 800 RM (over 200 USD) each, PrimeMinister Najib Razak announced on April 13.
According to the local online newspaper TheStar, the cards are launched through the 1Malaysia Taxi Drivers Welfare Cardwhich carries a value of 53.6 million RM.
The fuel cards will be distributed by the LandPublic Transport Commission to each taxi driver so that they can purchasepetrol or natural gas at Petronas stations nationwide.
Najib said he hopes the cards will helpMalaysia’s taxi drivers reduce the daily cost of operation and increase theirincome.
Malaysia recorded economic growth of 5.8 percentin 2017, higher than expected. The World Bank and International Monetary Fundforecast the Southeast Asian country’s economy could expand by 5.2 percent thisyear.-VNA
