Malaysia includes Judo, Fencing in SEA Games 2017

Kuala Lumpur (VNA) - The Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) said it have included Judo and fencing in the provisional list of SEA Games 2017, which is scheduled to take place in the country next year.

According to local news agency Bernama, judo and fencing were among 38 sports in a list to be submitted by OCM at the SEA Games Federation (SGF) meeting on July 13 and 14.

The new list is expected to feature 38 sports and 396 events compared to the initial list of 34 sports and 342 events.

Previously on February 24, Malaysia announced the provisional list of 34 sports for the SEA Games 2017, including athletics, aquatics, archery, badminton, basketball, boxing, football and gymnastics.

The country said it dropped marathon, 10,000 metre and 3,000 metre run for men and women, 3,000 metre hurdles, and women’s athletics.

However, OCM Secretary Low Beng Choo said the SGF will release the final list of sports in July.

It will the sixth time Malaysia is hosting SEA Games, which is slated for August 19-31, 2017, coinciding with the 60 th anniversary of the national day of the country.-VNA
