KualaLumpur (VNA) - The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC)arrested former Sabah chief minister Musa Aman on November 5.

The MACC said in a statement that it had received consent from theAttorney-General's Chambers to charge Musa, who was detained at MACCheadquarters at 10.05am.

“Subsequently, Musa will face several charges under the Anti-Corruption Act(ACA) 1997,” the MACC said.

The anti-graft agency added Musa was set to be taken to the Kuala LumpurSessions Court at 2pm for corruption charges involving a sum of up to 263million ringgit (64.5 million USD. His violations are believed to be made in2009.

If convicted, he will face sentences of between 14 and 20 years in jail and paya fine of no less than five times the money he misappropriated.

Musa assumed the role as chief minister of Sabah state from 2003 to May 9, 2018.

Before he was arrested, prosecutors also accused former Prime Minister NajibRazak and former Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid of committing differentcrimes.

Najib faces 38 counts of money laundering and abuse of power and trust inconnection with the scandal-hit state fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

Meanwhile, Zahid, who is Presidentof the opposition United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), faces 45 chargesof abuse to trust, money laundering and corruption.-VNA
