Based on the current road accident statistics, he proposedthat the government intensify its efforts to deal with road safety problems,especially those involving locals.
Allowing foreigners to drive trailer lorries or anycommercial vehicles will also affect job opportunities for locals in thesector, said the official.
On April 11, Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced thatforeigners are not allowed to drive trailer lorries despite pressure from theindustry to overcome the shortage of drivers.
The country's data for 2022 showed that there were 766haulage companies with 16,465 prime movers, 61,616 trailers, and a total of12,326 drivers./.
