KualaLumpur (VNA) – The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) needsto be strict on illegal foreign fishermen fishing in Malaysian waters, said ShahidanKassim, a Malaysian cabinet minister.

Theofficial made the statement at a working session with the agency on July 4. Healso instructed the MMEA to detain foreign fishing boats that violatedMalaysian waters.

TheMMEA said it caught hundreds of illegal foreign fishermen in waters off Sarawakin the first five months of the year.

InMay, more than 50 fishermen in Pekan district, Pahang state also called for toughermeasures on foreign fishermen operating illegally in Malaysian waters.-VNA
