From ancient times to the present, Hoang Sa has been a fishing ground with abundant aquatic resources, but there are also dangers. Many fishermen have lost their vessels due to natural disasters or enemy sabotage. Despite the hardships, though, no one quits their job.
For Ly Son fishermen, the sand on Hoang Sa is very special, and they bring some along when they fish offshore and return home. The sand is put into incense burners in the village communal house and every family altar twice a year, on the 5th and 30th of the 12th lunar month.
When fishing offshore on the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa fishing grounds, fishermen face many difficulties. But with courage, they cling to the sea. Images of vessels with red flags, yellow stars and fishermen are living evidence affirming the sovereignty of Vietnam’s seas./.
