A project inspiring kids in exploring folk paintings called Kim Hoang has been held recently in Hanoi. It is a famous genre of folk paintings in the Red River delta dating back to the 18th century.
The program titled “Kids exploring Kim Hoang folk paintings together” allows kids and their parents to see with their own eyes genuine Kim Hoang paintings drawn in ancient style and also the procedure of making artworks by the village’s artists
"I have been sitting here to join kids in creating actual paintings. I’m moved by their spirit," said Dao Dinh Chung, Kim Hoang artist.
Besides seeing artworks and watching painting process, kids also experienced painting on paper fans, bags and face masks. Learning the ancient drawing method of Kim Hoang’s artists provide these kids an insight into the history and meticulous techniques of Kim Hoang’s folk paintings.
Ngo Minh Dat, a pupil of Kim Lien Primary School said that he was amazed at the artwork. Because the painting look very cool and the artist is talented.
His mom, Thu Huong expressed her enjoyment about the project, saying that kids nowadays don't have the chance to see traditional art genres. She hoped that through this event, kids could understand more about what their previous generations did in the past.

The tradition of making the paintings had gradually declined and been lost in the middle of the 20th century until the recent three years when young generation of Kim Hoang’s artists has been exerting great efforts to revive the traditional folk paintings.-VNA
