Hanoi (VNA) – Legislators continued their plenary session in Hanoi on July 25 under the chair of National Assembly (NA) Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan.

In the morning, Tran Van Tuy, head of the NA Committee for Deputy Affairs, presented the NA Standing Committee’s report on its approval of Vice Chairmen of the NA's Council for Ethnic Affairs, and deputy heads and standing members of NA committees.

NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan then submitted a proposal on the candidate for the position of State President.

After that, the lawmakers discussed in groups the Presidential candidate.

Under the chair of NA Vice Chairman Do Ba Ty, the legislators heard a report on the legislature’s supervisory programme for 2017, delivered by NA Secretary General Nguyen Hanh Phuc.

While discussing the programme, the deputies focused on thematic supervision activities. Many suggested supplementing the environmental pollution caused by Hung Nghiep Formosa Ha Tinh Limited Company in the central province of Ha Tinh to the programme.

During the afternoon session, NA Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong presented a report on acquiring deputies’ opinions on the Presidential candidate.

After approving the list of the candidate for the post of State President, the legislators elected the position.

Tran Dai Quang was re-elected as President of Vietnam for the 2016 – 2021 tenure.

Later, the parliament approved a resolution on electing the President.

President Tran Dang Quang took his oath. The swearing-in ceremony was broadcast live on television and radio.

Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Prime Minister for the 2016-2021 tenure, presented a report on the Government’s organisation.

Chairman of the NA Law Committee Nguyen Khac Dinh delivered another report appraising the Government’s organisational structure. The deputies then discussed this issue in groups.

The legislature is scheduled to continue mulling over the Government’s organisation and a proposal on the candidate for the post of Prime Minister, among others, on July 26 morning.

They will elect the post in the afternoon and debate in groups the proposal on candidates for the positions of Vice Presidents, Chief Judge of the Supreme People’s Court and Prosecutor General of the Supreme People’s Procuracy.-VNA
