Kien Giang pours 51 billion VND in key tourism projects

The Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang plans to invest 51 trillion VND (2.2 million USD) in tourism projects to revive its tourism sector which has been severely hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Kien Giang (VNA) – The Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang plans to invest 51 trillion VND (2.2 million USD) in tourism projects to revive its tourism sector which has been severely hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bui Quoc Thai, Director of the provincial Department of Tourism said the projects that will receive capital injection include upgrading roads to Ba Hon tourist site, the tomb of Su Sister (a female hero in the resistance war), building infrastructure for Mo So historical relic and scenic spot in Kien Luong district as well as Hoa Mai Lake in U Minh Thuong district.

The province will set up a website for tourism promotion, and develop an online ticketing system, a mobile application and other activities to promote the images of Kien Giang.

Currently, Kien Giang is calling for investment in Ba Tau historical-cultural tourist site in Vinh Phuoc A commune, Go Quao district, which needs an estimated investment of 70 billion VND. The project will be implemented in 2021-2025 period.

As soon as the pandemic is put under control, the province will step up communication work to introduce its advantages and attractive services to domestic and international tourists

The provincial Department of Tourism plans to coordinate with consulting units to develop traditional products in connection with tourism as well as expand community-based tourism in the locality in 2021-2025 with orientations to 2030.

The province welcomed over 1 million tourists, including over 18,600 foreigners, in the first two months of 2022, up 27 percent year-on-year. Of the total, around 741,600 tourists traveled to Phu Quoc island city, representing a year-on-year rise of over 30 percent. The city earned over 750 billion VND  from tourism services.

This year, the province is striving to attract 5.6 million holiday-makers, including 200,000 foreigners, and earn around 7.75 trillion VND from tourism./.
