Khanh Hoa aims to reduce the number of poor households by 1.2 percent in 2018. (Source: baokhanhhoa.vn) Khanh Hoa (VNA) –The south central coastal province of Khanh Hoa aims to reduce thenumber of poor households by 1.2 percent in 2018.
In 2017, due toimpacts of typhoon Damrey in early November, the number of poor households inKhanh Hoa increased by more than 2,600, making the province fail to meet thetarget of only 16,500 poor households in the year. At the end of 2017, KhanhHoa had 21,540 near-poor households.
The province hassupported more than 8,100 poor and near-poor households, families of socialwelfare policies and those in difficulties having their houses destroyed by thestorm, with more than 60 billion VND (2.64 million USD), along withconstruction materials.
Apart fromdistributing 1,000 tonnes of rice from the Government to storm-affectedresidents, Khanh Hoa has also used 18.5 billion VND from its own budget topurchase rice for storm victims.
In 2018, thelocality will continue to mobilise different resources to overcome consequencesof the typhoon.
Banks in thelocality will offer an array of incentives to help residents restoreproduction.
It is estimatedthat some 7,000 households in Khanh Hoa will be subject to charged-off debtsworth 150 billion VND (6.6 million USD).
Khanh Son andKhanh Vinh, the two mountainous districts with numbers of poor and near-poorhouseholds making up 62 percent and 59.6 percent of total population, will beassisted with varieties of plants and animals and social welfare programmes.-VNA
