Hanoi (VNA) – More than 1.1 billion VND (48,400 USD) was raised to build flood-proofhouses at a musical event in Hanoi on December 3.
Paintings andsculptures were auctioned for charity during the event.
The 19 households tobenefit from the project were introduced at the event, including two each fromHa Tinh, Quang Binh, and Quang Nam, four from Soc Trang and nine from KhanhHoa.
In 2018, theproject aims to provide housing and financial assistance for flood-affectedfamilies in other regions, including the central, northern, the western andnorthern mountainous provinces.
It will also pilotsustainable village models by ensuring locals have clean water, toilets, and livelihoods.
The funds willalso be used for training to enhance the capability of people to respond tonatural disasters.
According to PhamThi Huong Giang, who launched and runs the fund, the project funded half of thehousing cost.
Previously, asimilar event was held in HCM city on October 18, raising more than 3.3 billionVND (193,600 USD).
The project, whichstarted in November 2013, has so far built 523 flood-proof houses, benefiting2,092 people.-VNA
