Hanoi (VNA) – Japan and the Philippines on February 29 signed an agreement on defence equipment and technology transfer, announced the Philippine Department of National Defence.
According to a press release from the ministry, the agreement was signed by Philippine Defence Minister Voltaire Gazmin and Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines Kazuhide Ishikawa at the ministry’s headquarters in Quezon city .
The agreement will pave the way for Japan ’s transfer of defence equipment and technology to the Philippines , said the release.
Besides equipment and technology transfer, the agreement will also allow the two sides to conduct joint research, development and production projects.
The cooperation will not only reinforce robust defence ties between the two countries but also help enhance defense capabilities of the Armed Forces of the Philippines needed to address the country’s security concerns while contributing to regional peace and stability, it stated.-VNA
