The armies of Vietnam and the Philippines see great potential for bilateral cooperation in various fields, including the United Nations peacekeeping, Quan Doi Nhan Dan (People’s Army) Newspaper quoted a senior Vietnamese military official as saying.
At a reception in Hanoi on October 26 for a delegation from the Armed Forces of the Philippines Peacekeeping Operations Centre (AAPTC) headed by Colonel Roberto T.Ancan, Lieut. Sen. Vo Van Tuan, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, said Vietnam is now preparing to set up a field hospital and send a company of sappers to the UN peacekeeping missions.
Tuan, who is also Deputy Head of the Defence Ministry’s Steering Committee for Peacekeeping, expressed his wish that the AAPTC will share experience with and provide support for the Vietnam Peacekeeping Centre (VPC) in personnel training.
Earlier on the same day, the AAPTC delegation had a working session with the VPC during which the two sides discussed a possibility of strengthening future collaboration in the field.
Also on October 26, the VPC, the 175 Military Hospital and Australia’s Peace Operations Training Centre jointly organised a seminar on operation of field hospitals at the UN’s peacekeeping missions. The event was part of a defence cooperation programme between Vietnam and Australia.-VNA
