Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesian authorities have tightened security in Bali, after receiving reports on a suspected militant’s plan to attack the country’s famous resort island.

Police Chief of Bali province, Sugeng Priyanto said on August 22 local authorities have increased security at all entry points into Bali as well as small ports around the island.

Last weekend, Indonesian anti-terror police announced that they were investigating a suspected terrorist over an attack plot in Bali.

National police spokesman has revealed that the police found a bomb and explosive materials during a raid on the suspect’s house. The suspect declared that he was planning an attack in Bali but there are no details or timeline.

The island suffered several bomb attacks carried out by extremist Muslim group in the region over one decade ago, especially a nightclub bombing in Kuta town in October 2002, killing more than 200 people, mostly foreign tourists.-VNA
