New Delhi (VNA) – Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modiand his Singaporean counterpart Lee Hsien Loong had talks on June 1, agreeingto deepen bilateral economic ties and build on defence cooperation as theycalled for a peaceful, open, and friendly maritime environment in theIndo-Pacific region.
They also witnessed an exchange of memoranda ofunderstanding in numerous fields, including the training of public serviceofficials, cyber security, narcotics control and logistics cooperation betweenthe two navies.
Modi, who is in Singapore, said at a joint pressconference that the two countries’ strategic partnership has stood the test oftime in real sense. He added their officials will soon begin discussions onupgrading and reforming the Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement.
The two leaders also exchanged views on theregional and global challenges and reiterated their principled position onmaritime security and expressed commitment to rules-based order.

Earlier, PM Modi also made a courtesy call onSingaporean President Halimah Yacob.
He is set to deliver a keynote address at theShangri-La Dialogue in Singapore the same day.
Singapore is the last leg of his visit to threeSoutheast Asian nations, which also include Indonesia and Malaysia.
This is Modi’s second visit to Singapore,showing the importance of this Southeast Asian country as well as ASEAN in theAct East policy of India.-VNA
