Home-grown Nano Covax vaccine enters third-phase trial

The third-phase clinical trial of Vietnam’s first home-grown COVID-19 vaccine, Nano Covax, began on June 10. Being developed by the Nanogen Pharmaceutical Biotechnology JSC based on recombinant DNA/protein technology, the vaccine has undergone two trial phases and proved to be effective against the UK and South African variants.

More than 6,000 volunteers have registered for the third phase of the human trials of Nano Covax. The vaccine will be tested on around 13,000 volunteers aged between 18 and 74 in many localities nationwide.

Phase three will be divided into smaller segments, with each volunteer receiving only one jab of 25 mcg.

Thirty volunteers received vaccine shots on the first day of the trial.

Results from the previous two trials show that Nano Covax is completely safe. All of the vaccinated volunteers developed antibodies against the UK and South African variants. However, more studies on phase three are needed to clarify how effective it is against the Indian variant, which is wreaking havoc across northern localities in Vietnam now./.
