HCM City, Sweden’s Uppsala County boost hi-tech cooperation

Ho Chi Minh City wants to boost cooperation with Uppasala County of Sweden, especially in education and high technology towards sustainable development, Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong told its visiting Governor Stig Goran Enander during a reception on September 21.

HCM City (VNA) – Ho Chi Minh City wants to boostcooperation with Uppasala County of Sweden, especially in education and high technologytowards sustainable development, Chairman of the municipal People’s CommitteeNguyen Thanh Phong told its visiting Governor Stig Goran Enander during areception on September 21.

Phong said the city is coping with challenges in urbandevelopment such as environment and climate change.

In order to grasp opportunities from the Fourth Industrial Revolution,the city has announced projects on smart and innovative urban development which,he said, will offer opportunities to foreign investors, including those fromSweden and Uppsala, to form ventures.

Lauding education quality in Uppsala universities, Phongsaid Ho Chi Minh City needs high-quality workforce to turn itself into afinancial, scientific and technological centre.

Ho Chi Minh City appreciates cooperation programmes betweenUppsala University and Vietnamese universities, he said, wishing that UppsalaUniversity, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences and the city’suniversities would turn opportunities into specific projects, contributing toimproving local high-quality personnel.

The host expressed wish that Uppsala firms would invest inthe city in fields of strength such as high technology, innovation, environmentand high-tech agriculture.

Enander, for his part, spoke highly of the outcomes ofworking sessions with the city’s partners, including the Ho Chi Minh CityUniversity of Technology and Education and several firms in environmenttreatment.

He affirmed that Uppsala firms stand ready to assist Ho ChiMinh City in environment, communications, life sciences, start-up innovationsand climate change response.

At the reception, Swedish Ambassador to Vietnam PerericHogberg reaffirmed Swedish enterprises’ interest in Vietnam and Ho Chi MinhCity in particular, saying that Uppsala businesses want to push forward jointwork in potential fields such as innovations and technology, smart solutionsupply in service of sustainable development.-VNA
