HCM City (VNS/VNA) – Ho Chi Minh City expects to welcome 3,000 international visitorsin March and April, a tourism official has said.

The city is anattractive destination with competitive prices compared to other cities inAsia, according to Nguyen Viet Anh, a representative of the city's tourismauthority.

It also has avariety of tourism products along with a system of rivers and inner-citywaterways different from those in the Mekong Delta.

However, thelack of a consensus on epidemic control and prevention has made itdifficult for tourists to travel across neighbouring provinces.

"As newregional tourism products are being developed, consensus among localitiesshould be emphasised for tourism to thrive," Anh said.

“It isexpected that from now till the end of this year, HCM City will welcome 3.5million international visitors, if all bottlenecks are removed.” 

Sinceactivities on pedestrian streets, food streets and at night markets are not asvibrant as they used to be, relevant authorities are seeking approval from theHCM City People's Committee to organise a “HCM City Welcomes You"programme to attract more visitors.

A communitycultural tourism area in Can Gio district’s Thieng Lieng hamlet on Thanh Anisland commune, under construction now, is expected to become a bright tourismspot in the near future. 

Vietnam hasthe advantage of being a country with a high vaccination rate. Almost alladults have received two doses of COVID-19 vaccine.

Even though Vietnamhas unilaterally exempted visas for 13 countries, it is necessary to createmore bilateral visa-free policies with other countries to attract internationalvisitors.

The Ministryof Culture, Sports and Tourism is currently working with Vietnam Insurance onefficient travel insurance, especially when the risk of COVID-19 infection ishigh./.
