Hanoi authorities meets World Peace Council delegation

The Hanoi municipal People’s Committee held a meeting in Hanoi on November 23 with an international delegation attending the Congress of the World Peace Council (WPC) Executive Committee.

Hanoi (VNA) – The Hanoi municipal People’s Committee held a meeting in Hanoi on November 23 with an international delegation attending the Congress of the World Peace Council (WPC) Executive Committee. 

Vice Chairman of the municipal People’sCommittee Le Hong Son said as a WPC member, Vietnam supports peace movements indeveloping countries by holding seminars, collecting signatures and launchingrunning and walking competitions to raise public awareness of the struggle forpeace.

President of the Portugese Council for Peaceand Cooperation Ilda Figuereido, also a member of the WPC Executive Committee, expressedher belief that Vietnam will further contribute to the peace movement of theworld people and the WPC in particular.

The WPC was founded at the World Congress ofPartisans for Peace in Paris, France in April 1949, gathering representativesfrom political parties, peace committees and organisations from around theworld.

Since its establishment, the WPC hassupported Vietnam, particularly during the fight for national independence. Ithas also organised activities to help Vietnamese Agent Orange/dioxin victims seekjustice.

In 2010, the WPC issued a resolutiondesignating August 10 as Day in Support of Vietnamese AO victims.-VNA
