Supervision will particularly pertain to customsactivities related to businesses, said Nguyen Sy Trang, the department’s deputydirector, said on April 11.
Cameras will be installed in the offices ofcustoms leaders, in areas where customs procedures take place as well as in seaports and warehouses.
The decision comes after media reports of somecustoms officials at Dinh Vu port requesting businesses to pay extra fees underthe table.
According to Nguyen Van Thanh, head of thecustoms branch at the port, cameras will be installed to supervise everycorner.
Businesses can report about any customsofficials violating regulations or asking them to pay unofficial fees to thedepartment and branch managers by calling on their hotline numbers, which arepublicised in areas dealing with customs activities, Thanh said.
