Feedback sought on Long Thanh Airport design

The Aviation Airport Corporation has started collecting feedback from the local community in HCM City regarding the architectural plan of Long Thanh International Airport’s passenger terminal.

HCM City (VNA) - The AviationAirport Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) is collecting feedback from thelocal community in HCM City regarding the architectural plan of  Long ThanhInternational Airport’s passenger terminal from January 12 to 23, 2017.

“The Government had appointed the ACV to bethe investor for the passenger terminal. We are establishing the feasibilityresearch for the first phase of the Long Thanh International Airport’s passengerterminal,” Dao Viet Dung, deputy general director of the ACV was quoted assaying by the government website.

The ACV had already organised a contest forthe architectural plan of the Long Thanh International Airport’s passengerterminal. There were 16 international and domestic companies taking part in thecontest with nine plans.

The contest aimed to choose the most beautifuland feasible design that meets all required functions, as well as representingthe special characteristics of the construction.

The most impressive plans included images ofpalm branches and water coconut – familiar images of the South’s culture -along with a bamboo roof – a Vietnamese symbol - for the public spaces of theLong Thanh International Airport’s passenger terminal.

The collection of suggestions from the localcommunity about architectural plan of the Long Thanh International Airport’spassenger terminal was held in Hanoi from November 28 to December 12, 2016, inthe central city of Da Nang from December 16 – 25 and in the southern provinceof Dong Nai from December 28, 2016 to January 11, 2017.

The Long Thanh International Airport projectwas divided into three stages. At the first stage, a runway and one passengerterminal along other supported works will be built to serve 25 millionpassengers and 1.2 million tonnes of cargo each year. The first phase will befinished by 2025.

At the second stage, one more runway andanother passenger terminal will be constructed to serve 50 million passengersand 1.5 million tonnes of cargo a year. After the third phase, the airport willserve 100 million passengers and 5 million tonnes of cargo each year.-VNA
