Brussels (VNA) – The European Union (EU)’s HighRepresentative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini andCommissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management Christos Stylianides onNovember 8 issued a joint statement sending condolences to Vietnam over lossescaused by recent typhoon Damrey.
The statement said: “The typhoon that has struck Vietnam overthe past days has taken many lives and caused considerable damage, adding tothe toll of a number of storms in the past weeks. On behalf of the EuropeanUnion, we express our heartfelt condolences to the victims, their families andloved ones, and to all those affected.”
“The European Union stands alongside the people of Vietnamand the Vietnamese authorities at this time, in particular the emergencyservices and response teams who are working to save lives and minimise thedamage to homes, livelihoods and infrastructure.”
The statement also added that the EU is in touch withVietnamese authorities and ready to help Vietnam address consequences caused bythe storm.
The bloc’s 24/7 Emergency Response Coordination Centreis monitoring developments and will send a team in the coming days to assessthe damage and explore any assistance requested by the Vietnameseauthorities.-VNA
