Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc received 42 clergies from 38 religious organisations of 14 religions across the country on September 1 who are attending the public celebration of the 70th National Day (September 2, 1945).

At the meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister said Vietnamese people, regardless of sex, background or religion, gathered under the light of the Communist Party’s Viet Minh Font seven decades ago to break the chains of slavery in the legendary August Revolution, opening a new chapter in the nation’s history.

After the Independence Day, the late President Ho Chi Minh declared religious freedom and hope for solidarity among people with different beliefs, Phuc recalled.

Since then, the Party and the State have continually respected the freedom of religious belief and worship, given religions are part of the spiritual life of people, he stressed, adding that religious activities must be conducted in accordance with laws.

The State official hailed religious followers for their great contributions to the national struggle for independence and active efforts to rebuild the country and create a better life.

Vietnam has heightened its position in the international arena with expanded cooperation, stable economic growth and guaranteed social welfare and security as a result of initiatives by the entire politburo and people, including religious believers.

Phuc believed that all religions will continue to uphold their values and together develop the country towards democracy, justice, prosperity and civilisation.

Religious dignitaries expressed their gratitude to the Party and State for facilitating their religious practices and affirmed that the religions nationwide live in harmony despite their differences.

The Deputy PM pledged to create conducive conditions for religious activities in accordance with the law and ensure freedom of religion.-VNA
