President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan met with nearly 100 dignitaries representing 32 religious organisations in Ho Chi Minh City on August 16 to solicit their opinions on the draft Law on Belief and Religion, set to be submitted to the National Assembly.

During the meeting, the VFF leader also listened to their aspirations and views on the implementation of recent policies and laws, especially those related to belief and religion and building national unity.

He affirmed the Party and State’s policy of respecting and observing people’s right to religious freedom. The 2013 Constitution also stated that the right to religious freedom is not only a citizen right but a human right, he added.

The VFF President emphasised that the front is always keen to listen to the opinions of all religious followers in a bid to improve the efficiency of Party and State policies in the field.

He also hailed community activities involving religious followers, expressing his hope that they will continue contributing to building unity towards the common goal of national defence and development.

Raising their voice on the draft Law on Belief and Religion, the dignitaries sought continuous support from State agencies for nursing, vocational training and healthcare facilities run by religious organisations and individuals.

According to Nguyen Ngoc Phong, Vice Chairman of the VFF’s Ho Chi Minh City Chapter, the mainstream of information on Party and State directions and policies to religious followers has created strong consensus in the implementation of patriotic movements in the city.

The active engagement of religious organisations in social activities has also contributed to improving the city’s social security and the national solidarity, he added.-VNA
