Company representativestold Kinh Te Do Thi (Urban Economic Affairs) newspaper reported theyhave issued recruitment announcements for several months and participated injob fairs, but their demand has not been met.
Unikmart needs to recruitten more salesclerks and cashiers for its new supermarket in October. The jobis designed for high school graduates at a starting salary of 3-5 million VND (130-217USD) per month, and additional allowances.
However, Nguyen Thi HuyenTrang, in charge of human resources of the supermarket, said, “many workers donot want to take the job for a long time but only three to six months. Theytake the job to experience and then seek another higher-paid job instead ofstaying with the old job for long to achieve promotion opportunity.”
Technical companies alsofind it difficult to find workers in spite the relatively high starting salary.Sang Ban Mai Electricity Company offers 6 million VNd (260 USD) per month inaddition to 120,000 VND (5 USD) per day for each technician who installshousehold or office power, in addition to allowances for petrol, overtime andphone cards. The total monthly income is estimated at some 8 million VND (350USD).
However, according to NguyenVan Khanh, head of the northern office of Sang Ban Mai ElectricityCompany, university graduates are easy to recruit but the company can onlyafford to pay unskilled workers (college and vocational school graduates) dueto its limited budget.
Khanh said many universitygraduates would rather be unemployed than accept a job requiring lower skillsand pay.
According to the Ministryof Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, there are as many as 1.11 millionunemployed people nationwide, constituting some 2.3 percent of the working agepopulation.
According to Vu Quang Thanh, deputy director of the Hanoi Job Service Centre, in the final three months ofthis year, demand for unskilled labourers and college and university graduateswill keep growing.
Average pay for stablepositions such as accountants, officers, receptionists stands at 5-7million VND (217-304 USD). Higher monthly wages of 7-10 million VND (217-304USD) are offered for higher skills and work under pressure, such as sales, managers and supervisors, he said.
Based on recruitment demandof companies, Thanh said it is hard for manufacturing companies to recruitlabourers. For example, the Job Service Centre has received demands forwelding unit operators and contacted vocational schools to recruit them, butthe results are modest. “Only 18 to 20 students register for each courseat some middle-level schools. We have not approached labourers to ask them thereason why,” Thanh said.
The centre will continue toconduct job fairs for labourers who come back from the Republic of Korea ormilitary service to help provide workers for companies during the New Yearfestival in January.
“Young people should acceptjobs which are not their major if they have ability in order to have income fortheir life. This is a channel for them to approach the job market before theyseek jobs relevant to their majors. They should not accept being unemployed,”Thanh said.-VNA
