Havana (VNA) - Cubanrevolutionary leader Fidel Castro, atowering figure of the 20th century, died in Havana on November 25 at the ageof 90, announced his brother, President Raul Castro.
"The commander inchief of the Cuban revolution died at 22:29 hours this evening," the Presidentsaid on Cuba’s national television.
The revolutionaryleader’s remains will be cremated in compliance with his expressed will, saidRaul Castro, who took power after his older brother Fidel was hospitalised in2006. Detailsof his funeral would be given on early November 26, he added.
Born on August 13, 1926, Fidel was agreat revolutionist who named Cuba in the history of humankind with a revolutionoverturning the dictatorial regime and led the Caribbean country to today’s independence.
As one of the leadingworld figures in the second half of the 20th century, Fidel Castro had outsizedinfluence given the size of his small Caribbean island.-VNA
