Vientiane (VNA) – Lao Foreign Minister Salomsay Kommasit held talks with his visiting Chinese counterpart Wang Yi, in Vientiane on April 23.
At the meeting, the sides praised the growing cooperation between Laos and China, particularly in trade and tourism.
Sound outcomes of the two countries’ joint projects included a successful launch of Laos’ first satellite into space, and the beginning of the Laos-China railway construction.
The foreign ministers concurred with speeding up the railway’s construction.
They agreed to coordinate closely in preparing for an upcoming visit to China by Lao Party General Secretary and President Bounnhang Volachit in May.
They also discussed the celebration of 55 years of diplomatic ties this year, with a range of activities organised in both nations.
During his time in Laos, Wang Yi is scheduled to pay courtesy calls on President Bounnhang Volachit and Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith. He will also tour Laos’ ancient citadel Luang Prabang.-VNA
