Catholics join hands to build new-style rural areas

Nghe An province currently has nearly 290,000 Catholics. Over recent years, local Catholics have actively joined social movements and programmes on socio-economic development in the locality, contributing to helping Nghe An become a good example of the national programme.

Nghi Van commune in Nghi Loc district is a purely agricultural commune and has more than 55,000 Catholics, or 52% of its population. In response to the campaign encouraging people to develop new-style rural developments in residential areas, local Catholics voluntarily donated thousands of square metres of land for building rural roads and canals and upgrading cultural centres in local communes.

In 2019, the commune reached standards for new rural areas.

The good example set by Nghi Loc district has been copied in many other districts in the province, stirring up solidarity and contributing to successfully implementing the national programme.

More than half of communes in Nghe An meet the criteria for new-style rural areas. This shows the endeavours of both local authorities and local people, including parishioners, to reach the common target of building new-style rural areas. It also shows the great national unity shared and nurtured by local people./.
