Hanoi (VNA) – Politburo member and Secretary ofthe Hanoi Party’s Committee Vuong Dinh Hue spoke highly of constructivecontributions of the Hanoi Archdiocese and Catholics in the capital this yearduring his visit to extend Christmas greetings to the archdiocese on December22.

At the meeting, he said Hanoi, despite largely impacted bythe COVID-19 pandemic, has completed its socio-economic growth targets, withits GRDP increasing 3.98 percent and budget collection exceeding the estimate.

The pandemic situation in the city has basically been put under control, he added.

Hue attributed the results to the concerted efforts from thelocal Party, authorities and people, including the Catholic community.

Stressing that several important events will take place in2021, the official hoped the community to continue their participation in thecapital’s emulation campaigns in contribution to the realisation of its goals.

For his part, Joseph Vu Van Thien, Archbishop of the HanoiArchdiocese, thanked the municipal authorities for giving assistance to Catholics and askedfor further facilitation of religious activities in the capital.

The Hanoi Archdiocese encompasses Hanoi, and Hoa Binh, HaNam and Nam Dinh provinces with about 35,000 followers. 

Earlier the same day, member of the Party Central Committee,Vice Secretary of the municipal Party Committee and Chairman of the People’s CommitteeChu Ngoc Anh visited the Evangelical Church of Vietnam (North) and the HanoiEvangelical Church, extending his merry Christmas and Happy New Year greetings.

The Evangelical Church of Vietnam (North) is the biggestProtestant organisation in the region, with more than 170,000 followers, 21branches, and 13 churches across 29 northern provinces and centrally runcities./.
