Can Tho (VNA) – The first Yanmar Institutes’ conference on appropriate technologies to improve the lives of farmers in the Southeast Asian region was held in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho on December 22.
The conference, organised by the Can Tho University (CTU) and the Yanmar Agricultural Research Institute (YARI) in Vietnam in collaboration with the Japanese Yanmar Group, drew the participation of domestic and foreign experts in agriculture as well as scientists from the YARIs in the region.
Participants discussed and shared experience in the application of scientific achievements in agricultural mechanisation with the aim to develop a clean and sustainable agriculture in the future.
The conference also reviewed the activities of YARI Vietnam since its establishment in 2013.
According to CTU Rector Ha Thanh Toan, YARI Vietnam has actively conducted studies on agricultural machinery, biofuels, and technologies serving aquaculture.
Its activities have efficiently contributed to the development of a sustainable agriculture in the Mekong Delta region, and helped improve local farmers’ incomes, he added.
He also revealed that the Yanmar Group has provided hi-tech agricultural machines worth 120,000 USD for the CTU and funded 20 research projects worth 200,000 USD conducted by the university’s professors and students.-VNA
