Japan to launch more projects in Can Tho

Japan will carry out more projects on rural transport, waste treatment, education and healthcare in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho in the time ahead, a Japanese diplomat said.
Japan will carry out more projects on rural transport, wastetreatment, education and healthcare in the Mekong Delta city of CanTho in the time ahead, a Japanese diplomat said.

Japanese Deputy Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Yoshinori Yakabemade the promise at a meeting with Vice Chairman of the municipalPeople’s Committee Dao Anh Dung on March 20.

According to the official, Japan and the Can Tho University recentlysigned a cooperative project on waste treatment using microbialtechnology.

The Consulate General will also workto accelerate the establishment of twinning relations between Can Thoand Japan ’s Chiba prefecture in order to facilitate theircooperation in high-tech agriculture.

Dung, inturn, informed the Japanese official that a Japanese-funded project tobuild a medical facility for the homeless elderly and children has beenput into operation, while another to build 12 bridges in rural areas,also with most of funding coming from by Japan, is scheduled to becomplete this year.

The projects help improvelocal social welfare services and open up more economic developmentopportunities for the rural areas, he said.-VNA
