Phnom Penh (VNA)- Cambodian Prime Minister and President of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) Hun Sen warned that he will take legal action against opposition leader Sam Rainsy if he continues to accuse his ruling party of seeking to avoid elections in the future.

Speaking in a video on his Facebook page on November 12, the PM asserted that Rainsy’s accuse was an “act of defamation” and hecould be charged with a crime.

The PM’s warning came after Sam Rainsy, President of the Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP), called on the international community to increase supervisions in order to ensure that communal elections in 2017 and the national elections in 2018 are truly democratic.

Disputes between the two parties have risen after the National Election Committee announced the parliament election’s outcome in July 2013. The CPP won 63 of 123 seats in the parliament and CNRP obtained 55 seats.

However, CNRP opposed the results, organised several anti-government demonstrations and boycotted the new parliament. On July 22, 2014, the two parties reached an agreement on election reform and sharing power in parliament.-VNA
