Cambodian police arrested opposition senator Hong Sok Huar on August 15 after Prime Minister Hun Sen accused him of treason for posting on social media a document distorting the 36-year-old border agreement between Cambodia and Vietnam.
Hong Sok Hour was accused of distorting the treaty’s Clause 4, saying the two sides will sign an agreement to abolish their border line.
However, a press release of the Cambodian Government, issued right after PM Hun Sen’s accuse, rejected the distortion, stating that the Government will use strict legal measures against Hong Sok Hour to maintain public order and law in the country.
The press release also quoted the treaty’s Clause 4 as saying that the two sides will sign an agreement based on the existing border line with a determination of building their shared border line of long-term peace and friendship.
