Phnom Penh (VNA) – Cambodia’s Courtof Appeals on February 1 decided to continue detaining Kem Sokha, formerPresident of the now-dissolved opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party(CNRP).
Kem Sokha was transferred from Trapeng Phlongprison in Tbong Khmum province to the closed-door bail hearing in Phnom Penh for the first time since hewas arrested in September 2017 on charges of “colluding with foreigners” to overthrowthe government under Article 443 of Cambodia’s penal code.
In November 2017, the Supreme Court of Cambodiaordered to dissolve the CNRP after the Ministry of Interior affirmed theparty’s plot of treason.
The court also banned 118 senior officials of theCNRP from any political activity in the country within five years.
The former opposition leader could face 15-30years in prison.-VNA
