PhnomPenh, November 23 (VNA) – Cambodia’s National Election Committee (NEC), onNovember 23, submitted to the parliament its allocation of seats of theCambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) to other parties.
Accordingto the local online news agency Freshnews, NEC Deputy Secretary General SomSorida said the 55 seats of the dissolved opposition CNRP have been allocatedto five parties – the FUNCINPEC party, Cambodian Nationality Party, Khmer EconomicDevelopment Party, Khmer Anti-Poverty Party, and League for Democracy Party.
Headded that the FUNCINPEC party receives a majority of 41 seats.
OnNovember 16, Cambodia’s Supreme Court ordered the dissolution of the CNRP inresponse to the Interior Ministry's lawsuit, which accused the party ofseriously violating the amended Law on Political Parties, saying it hadconspired with foreigners to topple the Government. CNRP leader Kem Sokha wasarrested on September 3 on charges of treason while more than half of theparty’s leaders left Cambodia.-VNA
