Phnom Penh (VNA) – Cambodia’s SupremeCourt on November 16 ordered the dissolution of the Cambodia National RescueParty (CNRP) in response to the InteriorMinistry's lawsuit.
The court ruling also bans 118 senior officials of the party frompolitics for five years from the date of this verdict issuance.
The Supreme Court is the highest rung inCambodia’s justice system, and once its decision is handed down, there is norecourse for appeal.
On November 15, security forces were deployed in anticipation of a publicuprising. However, there were neither gatherings nor protests in Phnom Penhduring the court hearing.
The Interior Ministry accused the CNRP of seriously violating the amended Lawon Political Parties, saying the party had conspired with foreigners to topplethe Government. CNRP leader Kem Sokha was arrested on September 3 on charges of treason while more than half of the party’s leadersleft Cambodia.-VNA
