Phnom Penh (VNA) – Cambodia’sNational Election Committee (NEC) has suggested the UN send observers or set up an office at the NEC’s headquarters to observe thecountry’s 6th National Assembly elections in late July.
The suggestion was made by NEC Chairman Sik Bunhok at a working session with theUN’s Special Rapporteur on Human Rights Rhona Smith on March 13.
According to spokesperson of NEC Hang Puthea, RhonaSmith asked the NEC to ensure fairness, transparency and honesty in the upcomingelections.
However, she has not answered the NEC’s proposal.
Rhona Smith had a working visit to Cambodia from March 5-14, during which shehad meetings and working sessions with senior Cambodian officials.-VNA
