HCM City (VNA) - The number of bookings for tours duringthe upcoming holidays celebrating Liberation Day and May Day, from April 29 toMay 2, has risen by 15-25 percent compared to the same period last year, accordingto tour operators.

The number of bookings at Fiditour increased by 25 percent overthe same period last year, said Tran Thi Bao Thu, the company’s communicationsand marketing director.

Bookings for tours to foreign countries have filled up, whiledomestic tours are expected to close four to five days prior to departure, shesaid, adding that 90 percent of tours were booked in advance.

Package tours to Japan, the Republic of Korea and Taiwan have soldwell due to good prices and easy visa applications via travel agents.

A four-day tour to Taiwan and the Republic of Korea costs around 10million VND and 13.99 million VND, respectively, cheaper than some domestictours.

Vietravel expects to serve 20,000 holiday-makers, a year-on-yearincrease of 15 percent, said Tran Thi Viet Huong, the company’s communicationand marketing director.

Tours to foreign countries are almost fully booked, while 70 percentof domestic tours have sold out, Huong said.

The long holiday and reasonable prices have increased traveldemand, said Pham Thi Bich Ngoc, deputy director of Vietrantour.

Vietrantour has been working with airlines, transport servicefirms, hotels and restaurants to get prices that are 30 percent cheaper thanmarket prices for tours, she said.

Four-day tours from Hanoi to Da Nang/Hoi An, Nha Trang, Phu Quocand Da Lat are priced from 4.7-5.9 million VND (208-260 USD).

A package tour to Israel costs 55.9 million VND (2,470 USD), whichis as much as the return fare of a Hanoi-Israel air ticket.

Tour packages from Hanoi to the Maldives have also been populardue to reasonable prices and attractive destinations.

Tran Tuan Anh, deputy director of Vietravel Hanoi, said the numberof bookings for the upcoming holidays was expected to rise by 18-20 percentcompared to the same period last year.

Tour prices have remained unchanged or are even cheaper thanusual, Anh said.

Tours to foreign countries have outstripped domestic tours due tocompetitive prices, good service and the attraction of new experiences.

Airfares as well as prices for accommodation and hospitalityservices at domestic tourist destinations are more expensive than usual, saidTran The Dung, deputy director of Young Generation Travel Company.

“Domestic tours have sunk, while foreign tours have sold out,” Dungsaid.

It is difficult to keep prices of package tours unchanged duringthe holiday due to the rising costs of plane tickets and services for tourists.

The cost of plane tickets for the Sai Gon-Hanoi route, forexample, rose from nearly 3 million VND (132 USD) to nearly 4 million VNDduring the holidays.

Domestic tours to beaches such as Phu Quoc, Con Dao and Nha Trang,as well as Da Nang/Hoi An, Hanoi/Yen Tu and Ha Long Bay, have been bestsellersfor the upcoming holiday period.-VNA
