– Chairperson of Myanmar's election-winning opposition party National League for Democracy (NLD) Aung San Suu Kyi has called on all stakeholders in Myanmar to cooperate for the interest of the nation.

San Suu Kyi made the call while honoring the outgoing parliamentarians and welcoming the freshers at the transitioning ceremony on January 29.

Present at the event were outgoing Vice President Sai Mauk Kham, Speaker of the Union Parliament and House of Representatives U Shwe Mann and Speaker of the House of Nationalities U Khin Aung Myint, among others.

In his speech, U Shwe Mann called on law makers of the new parliament to inherit the good practices of the previous parliament and continue to take responsibility for the next term.

The present five-year term of the parliament, which lasted from January 31, 2011, came to an end on January 29. The new term of the elected parliament will start on February 1.

The current term of the government will also expire on March 30 and a new government will take office on the day.

Previously on January 28, the NLD nominated two new speakers of the two Houses of the parliament for the next term, with U Win Myint as speaker of the House of Representatives and U Mann Win Khaing Than as speaker of the House of Nationalities.
