Bangkok (NNT/VNA) – The ASEAN Student Council has organised aconference to inspire the region’s youth to protect the environment, combatcorruption and be good citizens.

Kasetsart University hosted the ASEAN Student Council conference, which broughttogether students from universities across ASEAN and China. The aim of theevent was to inspire social responsibility and honesty.

Vice Dean for Student Affairs at Kasetsart University, Asst. Prof Wing CmdNgamlamai Piwluang outlined that the program began in 2017 when the universitysigned Memorandums of Understanding with over 100 other institutions throughoutASEAN. The latest conference saw the signing of a declaration to drive ASEANand the world in 2019 with a focus on environmentalism, honesty and being agood global citizen.

President of the council at Kasetsart University, Kantawat Thanasirikulremarked that as Thailand is the ASEAN Chair for 2019, there will be manyprograms for students and youths to take part in and to pursue agendas such asthe No Plastic programme, which has already been adopted by the university’sown convenience stores.

With Thailand also heading for a general election, the council has joined handswith King Prajadhipok’s Institute to undertake training of new voters,instructing them on the voting system and their civic duties. – NNT/VNA
