Jakarta (VNA) – The 20th ASEAN-China Joint Cooperation Committee (ACJCC) Meeting took place in Jakarta, Indonesia on April 9.

The meeting was to review the recent activities of ASEAN-China cooperation and to determine orientations and measures to further promote future bilateral relations.

Ambassador Tran Duc Binh, head of Vietnam’s permanent mission to ASEAN, attended the meeting.

At the event, participants spoke highly of the development of ASEAN-China relations in all fields. As of 2017, two-way trade hit 436.8 billion USD, accounting for 17.1 percent of ASEAN’s trade. Meanwhile, China’s direct investment into ASEAN reached 11.3 billion USD in the year, making up 8.2 percent.

They added that in 2018, on the 15th founding anniversary of the ASEAN-China strategic partnership, leaders of the two sides approved the ASEAN-China Strategic Partnership Vision 2030 which serves as the first mid- to long-term plan between ASEAN and China towards the development of the partnership and multilateral cooperation in the future.

The two sides noted that after four years of implementing the Plan of Action to Implement the Joint Declaration on ASEAN-China Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity (2016-2020), 85 percent of action lines and cooperation projects in 35 out of 44 fields had been carried out.

ASEAN member nations and China continued to show their commitment to the full implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), contributing to peace, stability, security, safety, freedom of maritime and aviation, and free trade in the East Sea.

The two sides agreed to implement decisions and outcomes of the 21st ASEAN-China Summit which took place in Singapore in November 2018. They also consented to accelerate activities in the remaining time of the Plan of Action and the ASEAN-China Year of Media Exchange in 2019, including some activities held in Jakarta.

In the time ahead, ASEAN and China will look to strengthen cooperation in smart cities and cultural exchange; narrow the development gap; and implement Work Plan III of the Initiative for ASEAN Integration (IAI Work Plan III).
