APEC 2017: President Tran Dai Quang meets with RoK President

President Tran Dai Quang had a meeting with President of the Republic of Korea (RoK) Moon Jae-in in Da Nang city on November 11 on the occasion of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week.

Da Nang (VNA) – President Tran Dai Quang had ameeting with President of the Republic of Korea (RoK) Moon Jae-in in Da Nangcity on November 11 on the occasion of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week.

The two leaders lauded the achievements in theircountries’ relations over the last 25 years and agreed to intensify theVietnam-RoK strategic cooperative partnership. 

Vietnam and the RoK have common strategicinterests in maintaining peace and stability for development, President Quangsaid, stressing the importance of organising high-level visits and meetings andimplementing effective measures and policies to bolster the stable developmentof economic-trade ties.

He applauded RoK businesses’ stronger investmentand participation in equitising State-owned enterprises and restructuringcredit institutions in Vietnam. 

He asked the RoK Government to create optimalconditions for Vietnam’s agro-forestry-fishery products to be exported to theRoK and help the Southeast Asian nation be part of the RoK’s global supplychains.

The host leader called on the RoK to continueproviding Vietnam with non-refundable aid and official development assistancepackages with preferential interest rates, while helping the country improvethe capacity of enforcing law at sea and settle post-war bomb and mineconsequences.

President Quang asked both countries to carryout the financial cooperation agreement in some major transport infrastructureprojects well. They should continue cultural exchanges, actively support andensure the safety and legitimate interests of Vietnamese and RoK citizens,create favourable conditions for activities of the two countries’representative agencies.

Regarding regional and international issues, heaffirmed Vietnam’s consistent viewpoint on supporting the denuclearization ofthe Korean Peninsula and the serious implementation of the UN SecurityCouncil’s resolutions regarding the nuclear issue of the Democratic People’sRepublic of Korea. He asked the RoK to continue supporting Vietnam and ASEAN’sstance on keeping peace, security and stability and settling East Sea disputesin line with international law.

For his part, RoK President Moon highly valuedthe theme of the APEC Year 2017, “Creating Dynamism, Fostering A SharedFuture”, which is also the target of Vietnam-RoK relations.

The RoK attaches importance to its strategiccooperative partnership with Vietnam, he noted, adding that the majorattainments during the 25 years of diplomatic ties are a solid foundation toopen up bright prospects for bilateral relations in the time ahead.

The RoK will join Vietnam to unceasingly expandand deepen cooperation in all spheres. It wants both sides to continuestrengthening partnerships in human resources development, science-technology,transport, energy and infrastructure.

President Moon voiced his belief that theVietnamese people, with strong resolve and industriousness, will create a“miracle on the Mekong River”.

He invited his Vietnamese counterpart to visitthe RoK on the occasion of the 10th founding anniversary of the countries’strategic partnership in 2018. President Quang also invited the RoK leader tovisit Vietnam and wished the RoK will successfully organise the 2018 WinterOlympics.-VNA
