HCM City (VNA) – Building a preventive mechanism with severe punishments is proposed a measure aimed at deterring corruption, head a conference in Ho Chi Minh City on November 7.
The event looks to contribute to a report summarising 10 years of a resolution on anti-corruption released during the 10th Party Central Committee’s third plenary session.
Standing Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh, who heads the Steering Committee for the summary of 10-year implementation of the resolution, said that the prevention and control of corruption and wastefulness is an urgent and long-term task that is significant to the sustainable growth of the country.
Over 10 years, positive changes have been seen in the prevention, detection and handling of corrupt cases, he said, but pointing out that corruption and wastefulness still occur complicatedly in many sectors at all levels.
He called for participants’ opinions on the difficulties and problems in the work as well as the reasons behind, thus proposing solutions to strengthen the Party’s leadership over the combat of corruption and wastefulness in the coming time.
According to the draft report, over the past 10 years, 918 heads and deputy heads of offices were handled for irresponsibility leading to corruption, while 310,000 officials and public servants were transferred to other positions.
Meanwhile, 670 cases with 1,815 people with corrupt behaviours were detected, 274 with 429 involved people of which were transferred to investigation agencies.
At the same time, there were 86,463 reports on corruptions, 653 of which were sent to investigation agencies, said the report, adding that State Audit also discovered and proposed investigations on 3,337 cases with 7,789 defendants.
The people’s procuracy also launched legal proceedings on 2,770 cases with 6,480 defendants, while the people’s courts handled 2,536 cases involving 5,749 defendants, on corruption charges.
Participants at the conference also discussed the leadership and direction of Party organisations as well as the role of the organisation and leaders of State agencies in the implementation of the resolution.
They also highlighted the important role of elected agencies and officials, as well as the Vietnam Fatherland Front, other social organisations and the media in the work.
They suggested the completion of legal system to suit the reality for the effective fight against corruption and wastefulness.-VNA
