Hanoi (VNA) - Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong described strengthening the Party and fighting corruption, wastefulness and other bad deeds as a key and long-term task during his meeting with voters of Hanoi’s Tay Ho district on October 18.

Many adopted resolutions related to Party building, but words should go well with deeds in order to raise public trust in the work, the Party chief said.

The Resolution adopted at the fourth plenum of the 12 th Party Central Committee mainly focuses on how to prevent the degradation in political thought, morals and lifestyle, self-evolution and self-transformation, he noted.

The most important job is to seriously observe disciplines inside the Party, Trong said, calling on the people, the National Assembly and organisations to engage in supervising Party building.

He reiterated that corruption is a national disaster and Party building must be coupled with combating corruption.

Voters shared the view that corruption and other bad deeds are lingering in many sectors, and need to be dealt with constantly, regularly and drastically.

They suggested the legislature step up its supreme supervision over development investment and give due attention to sustainable development, environmental protection and poverty reduction in rural, remote and ethnic minority-inhabited areas.

Many expressed their concerns over environmental pollution and violations of food safety regulations.

Regarding agricultural land reclamation, they called for policies to help farmers switch jobs and stabilise their lives.

In reply, Party General Secretary Trong said such issues should be handled in a scientific and effective fashion.

At the meeting, Hanoi voters were informed about contents of the second session of the 14 th National Assembly scheduled to run from October 20 through November 23.

High on the addenda of the meeting will be law making and socio-economic issues, among others.-VNA
