The Mekong Delta province of An Giang and Cambodia’s Takeo province agreed on August 29 to reinforce their cooperation in protecting security, and social order and safety along the shared border during the second half of this year.

An Giang (VNA) – The Mekong Delta province of AnGiang and Cambodia’s Takeo province agreed on August 29 to reinforce theircooperation in protecting security, and social order and safety along the sharedborder during the second half of this year.

The consensus was reached during a regular meeting between representativesof the two localities in An Giang province.

The two sides will push border economic development and createfavourable conditions for border residents to exchange goods, have medicalcheck-ups and visit their relatives, while sharing information aboutenvironmental protection and water resources management in the border area.

The delegates proposed the Vietnamese and Cambodian governmentsupgrade the Bac Dai-Bak Dai auxiliary border gate to a main one, and open theVinh Gia-Ta O auxiliary gate, an auxiliary gate in Vinh Nguon ward, Chau Doccity, An Giang province, and another in Kompong Krosang commune, Borey Cholsardistrict, Takeo province, in an effort to facilitate trade between the twosides.

Leaders of the two provinces consented to better thecommunication work to encourage locals to abide by laws of the countries, aswell as treaties, agreements and border regulations they reached.

They will also step up collaboration in culture, economy andcrime combat, the meeting heard.

In the first six months of the year, An Giang and Takeorecorded noted achievements in affiliation in various areas, ranging fromeconomy, trade, agriculture, culture, tourism, health care, education andtransportation to border marker demarcation, and search for remains ofVietnamese volunteer soldiers in Cambodia.

They exchanged information and conducted joint patrols,helping ensure social order and safety, and border security, and spur localsocio-economic development.-VNA
