Phnom Penh (VNA) – The Kien Giang Universityin Vietnam’s southern province of Kien Giang and Cambodia’s Chea SimKamchaymear University inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperationin the Cambodian capital city of Phnom Penh on May 24.
Addressing the signing ceremony, VietnameseAmbassador Vu Quang Minh said during the 16th meeting of theVietnam-Cambodia Joint Committee on Economic, Cultural, Scientific andTechnological Cooperation in Hanoi on May 17, the two countries agreed toenhance collaboration in personnel training and development for sustainabledevelopment of each side.
Accordingly, the two sides will accelerate the establishmentof a Vietnamese study centre at the Royal University of Phnom Penh. Vietnamwill continue to grand hundreds of long-term scholarships to Cambodian studentsevery year. In response, Cambodia will help train Vietnamese students at therequest of Vietnamese ministries, agencies and localities.
Ambassador Minh described the signing of the MoUbetween the two universities as a step to realise the cooperation between theGovernments, ministries in charge of education and training, and localities ofthe two countries.
Under Secretary of State of Cambodia’s Ministry ofEducation, Youth and Sport Toch Visalsok suggested the two universities considersetting up a joint research centre on organic agriculture, contributing to thedevelopment of the agricultural sector in each country as well as the bilateralcooperation and friendship.
Established in 1983, the Chea Sim KamchaymearUniversity is one of Cambodia’s leading universities, with five faculties and aninstitute, and about 4,000 students.-VNA
