Hanoi (VNA) – Singapore’s Foreign Minister VivianBalakrishnan said all systems go for a summit between US President Donald Trumpand Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) leader Kim Jong-un to be heldin the Southeast Asian city-state next week.
He told Singaporean reporters in Beijing on June9 that “things will start happening within the next 24 hours,” but didn’tprovide details.
He said he went to the DPRK to make sure thateverything was spick and span and in place, no last minute spoilers ordifficulties.
Both the US and the DPRK are pleased with thearrangements, the official added.
Vivian Balakrishnan arrived in Pyongyang on June7 to have talks with his DPRK counterpart Ri Yong-ho to discuss preparationsfor the US-DPRK summit, slated for June 12. He also met with President ofthe Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly Kim Yong Nam.
Also on June 9, the Korean Broadcasting System(KBS) of the Republic of Korea (RoK) said two of its reporters had to return totheir country as they were arrested for allegedly trespassing in the home ofthe DPRK ambassador in Singapore.
The RoK Press Foundation said more than 300 RoKreporters plan to come to Singapore to cover the historic summit.-VNA
